Rebuilding Strength, Routine and Confidence in Gospel Oak

Test post 1

Marisa is a university researcher living in Gospel Oak who joined THRIVE Personal Training & Health alongside her partner. They were both keen to get back into training together and build a routine that felt sustainable, supportive, and close to home.

For Marisa, convenience mattered — but so did doing things properly.

The Challenge

Before starting the 6-Week Foundation Programme, Marisa wanted to rebuild strength and reduce her risk of injury, particularly through her lower body. She had previously stopped training and, as a result, had lost both weight and muscle. Her goal wasn’t just to “lose weight”, but to regain strength and put healthy weight back on in a way that supported long-term health.

Like many people returning to training after a break, she also wanted to feel confident in her technique and comfortable being back in a routine again.

The Turning Point

What Marisa valued most was simply getting back into a consistent rhythm. Training regularly, close to where she lives, made it much easier to stick to the process. She also really enjoyed training alongside her partner, which added accountability and made sessions more enjoyable.

Over the six weeks, she became noticeably more confident with her technique and more comfortable in the training environment — small wins that made a big difference to her overall experience.

The Results

During her first six weeks, Marisa achieved exactly what she set out to do.

Although her overall body weight increased, this was a positive outcome as she needed to for her health — driven by healthy weight gain and muscle growth, which is what most people actually want when they say they want to “get stronger”.

Her results showed:

  • A 1.2kg increase in muscle

Alongside this, she saw clear lifestyle improvements:

  • Fitness increased by 2 points
  • Energy increased by 2 points
  • Relationship with stress improved by 2 points
  • Overall happiness increased by 3 points

Marisa was particularly proud of how her technique improved and how naturally training started to feel again as part of her week.

As she put it:

“Getting back into a routine and feeling more confident with my technique has been the most helpful part.”

What This Means for You

Marisa’s experience shows that progress isn’t always about doing more — sometimes it’s about returning to the basics, rebuilding strength, and creating a routine that fits into real life.

Putting muscle back on, improving movement quality, and feeling happier and more energised day to day are all signs of training doing exactly what it should.
