Building Strength, Mobility and Energy at 47 in Belsize Park

Test post 1

Matthew is a 47-year-old engineer living in Belsize Park who joined THRIVE Personal Training & Health with a simple but important goal: to improve his general health. Alongside that, he wanted to build strength, improve mobility, feel better in himself, and look after his body properly as he got older.

He was looking for structured training that made sense and supported long-term health, rather than just going through the motions.

The Challenge

Before starting the 6-Week Foundation Programme, Matthew wanted to move better, feel stronger, and have more energy day to day. He’d trained elsewhere before but felt there were gaps — particularly around preparation and recovery — which sometimes left him feeling less than ideal.

He was also keen to raise his overall vitality and feel more confident in how he looked and felt, without doing anything extreme.

The Turning Point

What stood out most for Matthew was the structure of the training. He really enjoyed the variety within the programme, as well as the comprehensive warm-ups and cool-downs — something he hadn’t experienced properly in previous gyms.

Taking the time to prepare the body before training and to wind things down afterwards made a noticeable difference. It helped him feel more comfortable, move better, and train consistently while supporting mobility and working around any niggles rather than ignoring them.

He also enjoyed the element of friendly competition during one of our cardio-focused blocks, as well as the teamwork that came with it — adding an extra layer of motivation without pressure.

The Results

Over his first six weeks, Matthew was particularly pleased with his consistency, which laid the foundation for everything else.

His biggest lifestyle wins were:

  • A 4-point increase in energy
  • A 4-point increase in hydration

Both had a clear impact on how he felt day to day.

He’s enjoyed training in the studio environment and spoke positively about the space, equipment, and overall feel of the gym — all of which helped make turning up easier and more enjoyable.

As Matthew said:

“I really like the variety and structure of the training, especially the warm-ups and cool-downs. It feels like everything is properly thought through.”

What This Means for You

Matthew’s experience highlights how structured programming, proper preparation, and recovery can make a big difference — especially if your goal is to feel better, move well, and stay pain-free long term.

Good training isn’t just about what you lift — it’s about how you support your body before, during, and after each session.
